This is a hands-on review of the Xiaoburen Luan-Da-Meng, the AI plush companion from NamiBox and Miaoyin Habo. After two weeks of testing, I came away with a fresh understanding of what an “AI book companion” can be.
Its core strength: it knows exactly what it is. A book companion that both accompanies children and genuinely enters the learning scenario — not just another AI chatbot in plush form.
Soft, Tactile, and Instantly Approachable

Xiaoburen’s short-pile plush fur feels fine and smooth, with full, substantial stuffing. The included crossbody outfit is a genuine bonus for taking it out. Touch sensors on the head, belly, and back trigger different sound and expression responses. Connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi and 4G dual-mode support, usable right out of the box.
Free-Flowing Conversation That Understands Kids

The default free conversation mode requires no wake word. Children can switch topics mid-sentence and Xiaoburen follows naturally. In testing, it handled everything from weather questions to dinosaur extinction to “make up a story where Ultraman fights Sun Wukong” — responses came quickly in a child-friendly style.
This capability comes from a general LLM + proprietary children’s speech model architecture: one handles knowledge breadth, the other excels at understanding children’s speech patterns and intonation.
Feature Testing: Every Function Earns Its Place

Textbook Reading. Say “I want to listen to my textbook” and it confirms grade and edition, then plays content smoothly. Connected to the Miaoyin Habo mini-program, it covers nationwide multi-version curricula for Chinese and English.
Storytelling. Say “tell me a story” for automatic age-appropriate selections. Recommendations are consistently healthy and positive.
The Mini-Program: Emotional Insight Parents Need
The companion mini-program’s “Inner World Journal” transforms fragments from a child’s AI interactions into gentle emotional records. Casual mentions like “Math was hard today” or “I’m feeling sad” — which children often never tell parents — become readable observations. It helps parents see the small feelings that rarely get spoken aloud.
Final Thoughts: Strong Boundaries, Smooth Experience
Xiaoburen has excellent product boundaries — it knows what it should do. When a child wants to chat, it understands every wild tangent. When it’s time to learn, it becomes an infinitely patient teacher. When parents are busy, it quietly keeps a child company. It weaves companionship and learning together so naturally the line between them disappears. Good AI was never meant to replace love — it exists to give love more time and space.
