KID Company has officially announced KID®, a creative AI device purpose-built for children ages 4 to 12. Zero ads. No browser. No doom-scrolling. Designed to push back against the attention-optimized screens that dominate children’s technology today, KID offers families a safer alternative. Parents can monitor usage transparently through a companion app — not surveillance, just sensible oversight.
A Sphere Instead of a Screen
KID’s design philosophy extends beyond its software logic into the hardware itself. While most children’s tech products default to flat rectangular screens, KID uses a spherical, “magical” design — inviting, tactile, and approachable. Inside this fully protected environment, children use voice and touch to create stories, characters, artwork, and even physical picture books, guided by an expressive AI companion.

Why Now: The Backlash Against Addictive Kids’ Tech

The launch arrives as AI toys face intense scrutiny. A joint report by Fairplay and the U.S. PIRG Education Fund found that many connected AI toys expose children to inappropriate or unsafe content without parental awareness. As public concern grows around screen addiction and algorithm-driven engagement, KID positions itself as the “responsible AI” approach to children’s technology.

“For years, we have been handing adult devices to children, and the consequences are now undeniable — glazed eyes, mindless scrolling, deepening dependence on screen time, and a quiet disconnection from the real world,” said Robert LoCascio, founder of KID Company. “KID was born in our Childhood-First technology studio to reverse this trend. It is completely offline, focused on imagination, storytelling, and family connection — a healthier, more human way for kids to learn and play.”

A Father’s “YouTube Epiphany”
The idea for KID was sparked in LoCascio’s own home. He noticed his four-year-old son Lorenzo spending hours every day watching YouTube. One evening, father and son tried an early KID prototype together, co-creating a story with vivid images and characters. That shared experience of creating through imagination changed everything. “After that, he stopped asking for YouTube,” LoCascio recalled. “He only wanted to keep creating his own stories and AI companions. That experience established KID’s core principle: technology should spark creativity, not fuel passive consumption.”
LoCascio is also the CEO and founder of Uare.ai, a company that builds personal AI for adults. Both companies share a mission: human-first, privacy-safe AI. Where Uare.ai serves adults, KID brings that philosophy to children, providing a protected, imagination-driven alternative to the open internet.
